Israel's Cabinet Endorses Accord for Hostages' Liberation as American Forces to 'Supervise' Truce
Israel's cabinet has officially ratified a detailed truce arrangement that includes the return of all remaining detainees held by the militant group in the Gaza Strip, marking a major step toward terminating the devastating two-year war.
US Military Role in Monitoring the Ceasefire
Senior authorities in the White House have announced that a US armed forces unit of around 200 personnel will be sent to the area to "oversee" the truce after both Israel and the militant organization consented to the primary stage of the former President Trump leadership's peace proposal.
His responsibility will be to supervise, observe, ensure there are no infractions.
Prompt Enactment Timeline
As per an Israel's spokesperson, the truce should commence right away following administration ratification. The Israeli defense forces was allocated 24 hours to retreat its units to an pre-determined line. Afterward, the detainees held in Gaza would be freed within 72 hours, a government representative stated.
Significant Events

- The commander of the American military's military headquarters, General Brad Cooper, would initially have 200 personnel on the site, a senior US official stated.
- From Egypt, Qatari, from Turkey and probably from the UAE defense personnel would be integrated in the team, the US official stated. A second representative emphasized that "no US forces are scheduled to go into the Gaza Strip".
- Israeli attacks continued in the time before the Israeli government's approval. Blasts were observed on Thursday in north Gaza, and a airstrike on a building in Gaza City claimed the lives of at least two people and resulted in more than 40 trapped under rubble, as per Palestinian civil defence.
- At least 11 dead Palestinians and another 49 who were wounded were admitted at health centers over the past 24 hours, Gaza's Hamas-administered health authority reported.

Hamas condemned Israeli authorities over the attack, saying that the Israeli Prime Minister was trying to "rearrange the cards and confuse" efforts by mediators to conclude the conflict.
- Twenty Israel's captives are still considered to be alive in Gaza, while twenty-six are believed dead, and the whereabouts of 2 is undetermined.
- The Trump administration wider 20-point ceasefire proposal includes many pending issues, such as whether and how Hamas will surrender weapons. But both sides appeared nearer than they have been in an extended period to terminating the hostilities, which was initiated by Hamas's October 7, 2023 offensive on Israel, in which around 1,200 people were fatally injured and 251 captured, triggering an Israel's retaliation that has left more than 67,000 Gazan residents dead and nearly 170,000 injured, based on the Gaza Strip's health authority.
- Israeli Defense Forces confirmed an Israeli soldier, a 26-year-old reserve military personnel, was killed in a Hamas marksman attack in Gaza City on the previous day afternoon. This took place after Israel's and militant representatives agreed to a deal in Cairo to secure the liberation of the detainees, though the halt in fighting part of the arrangement had not yet come into effect.
- Israeli publication Haaretz has published the names of Palestinian detainees it thinks could be released as part of the new arrangement. 250 Palestinian inmates who are serving life sentences are expected to be released as part of the deal, out of about 290 currently held in Israeli prison. 22 children will also be liberated.
Worldwide Feedback
There have been no intentions for UK or European troops to be in the Gaza Strip after the halt in fighting arrangement, the United Kingdom's top diplomat the British official declared. "That's not our intention, there's no arrangements to do that," she said on the current day morning.
The official continued: "But there is an swift initiative for the United States to spearhead what is effectively like a observation system to guarantee that this happens on the site, to oversee the system with captive return, and also ensuring that this primary stage is implemented, delivering the relief in position, but they have also made very explicit that they foresee the military personnel on the ground to be provided by bordering states, and that is something that we do expect to happen."
Cooper declared she anticipates the truce will be executed "immediately". According to the official, there are worldwide negotiations on an "worldwide safety contingent" and the UK was carrying on to assist in other methods, including considering securing commercial finance into the Gaza Strip.
Public Reaction
Israeli citizens and Palestinian residents alike celebrated after the ceasefire arrangement was announced, while there was happiness but also concern in Gaza amid concerns the new arrangement could fail.
